Yard Sale, Garage Sale, and Estate Sale

My American life has been started with yard sales. My husband, who had come here one month before my kids and I arrived here,  rented leased an apartment, bought a used car, funiture from someonw who was going back to Korea, and kitchen goods at yard sales. In addition. he got some goods like rice cooker, TV set, steam  from Korean people.  At that time, because we were supposed to live here for just 6 months, everything used in house was reasonable for temporary living. When it turned summer, my husband and I enjoyed going to yard sales or estates sales with our Korean neighbor couple who have no car. Why? It was fun, and it was a good way to look into Amercian life as well. We have no close American friends who were silling to invite us to their home so that we had little knowledge about American life. Through the yard sales, or estates sales, we could assumed their common life.

[This old fatty TV set was taken from my husband's predecessor who lived for 4 months here, and he also got this TV set from the other. This is not a HD TV set so we now need a HD convert which is on the right side top of TV Set.]

[TV table is very old tea table which was gotten from my former APt manager without any money.]
[near-new Boombox came from a garage sale for $ 1 because it had no electric cord. It was not a problem because we had extra cord for printer which was not used.]

I want to tell one funny episode at garage sale. We went to a garage sale  sunday morning around  9 am. The house for garage sales was a 3 store-big including base room and every items were not ready to sell yet. But already so many people came there so that the host and hostess got so embarressed even though they hired one professional seller. When we looked around baseroom which looked to be a study room, there are one picture on the wall. The person in the picture was the host, and host in the picture wore Takwando clothes. and near the picture takwando's certificate of one DAN.
We talked together about Takwando, and the host and my husband showed off their stance each other... A that moment, I found big dish antena for TV, it was on. I asked him if he sell it, but he didn't know the antena was for sale. the garage sale's professional seller told him it was not on sale. But the host pulled out the antena's cord off from the wall, and saying " Let it leave for $3." I was happy to buy it. Soon I found the antena shoud work with a remote control so I asked him. He told us he had no idea where they put it. Because he could not give the remote control, just take it free. We refused it, but he gave us it saying " it was a just gift as a symple of honor of Takwando".

So we finally had a antena without remote control. We should buy it for more than $ 7 at Radio Shack to use antena.

Do you know the difference between yard sales or garage sales and estates sales? The yard sales or garage sales  are usually sold by the host, the owner or his family of the items. The estates sale's items were sold by professional seller who works at real estate company. For that reason, the items of yard sales are cheaper than estates sale, even we can make a good deal.
